My approach
I believe in providing a space where we can explore together how to grow awareness and understanding of ourselves. I look at the present through the lens of the past. Our earliest experiences profoundly shape who we are, and as humans we all are subject to some form of relational trauma. I feel it’s a privilege to share this space with my clients where we can look at the cognitive, emotional, and somatic inner world that often leaves us feeling unwell. It is my intention to provide a holding environment for all that you need to increase your mental well-being and happiness.
I believe that the relationship between the therapist and the client is the prime component of therapy. While I feel it is important to help identify ways on how we can cope with difficult emotions and feelings in the moment, my work primarily focuses on looking at emotions, feelings, and behaviors by identifying their origins and purpose. Not always the most pleasant, our emotions and feelings are intelligent messengers that provide an opportunity for us to pause and start listening.
Areas of focus
I have extensive experience in working with individuals experiencing anxiety and depression, as well as individuals with trauma—with particular interest in attachment/family of origin, relational trauma, and childhood abuse. Other areas include: Male clients struggling with their emotional world, identity, and parental relationships; individuals struggling with grief and loss, including loss of identity, roles, culture, and grief within life transitions.
Additionally, I provide support for other practitioners through supervision and consultation.
A little about me
I received a Bachelors of Science in Psychology and a Masters in Social Work with a concentration in Mental Health from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Following graduation, I worked for non-profit organizations supporting survivors of domestic violence and the veteran population. My experience in non-profit settings as well as private practice has allowed me to gain well-rounded clinical skills and let me hone into my areas of interest.
